Dhritiman Chatterjee, an Indian actor, embarked on his acting journey in 1970 with the lead role in Satyajit Ray’s “Pratidwandi” (The Adversary). Notably, the majority of his acting career has been dedicated to India’s “parallel” or independent cinema, where he collaborated with renowned filmmakers like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, and Aparna Sen. Dhritiman Chatterjee is highly regarded for his exceptional acting abilities. He has also ventured into English-language films, collaborating with notable directors such as Deepa Mehta and Jane Campion.
Born on May 30, 1945, Dhritiman Chatterjee is widely recognized by his screen name, although he is also known as Sundar Chatterjee. He received his education from St. Xavier’s Collegiate School and Presidency College in Kolkata, as well as the Delhi School of Economics. Alongside his acting career, Chatterjee pursued parallel interests in advertising, social communications, and documentary filmmaking.
