Dheeraj Denny hails from the quaint town of Kallettumkara in Thrissur, Kerala. He spent most of his childhood in Aluva, where he was raised at his father’s ancestral home. Coming from a modest and grounded family, Dheeraj was nurtured in an environment that valued hard work and simplicity.
His father, Denny Bonaventure, is a dedicated employee in the private banking sector, while his mother, Daisy Denny, is a homemaker who has been the pillar of support for the family. Dheeraj also has an elder brother, Deepak Denny, who has followed in their father’s footsteps and currently works in a private bank as well. This close-knit family background has played a significant role in shaping Dheeraj’s values and work ethic.
Dheeraj Denny completed his graduation in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) in 2011. Shortly after, he began his professional career as an Instrumentation Engineer with Yokogawa in Bangalore. It was during this period, in 2012, that his passion for acting first took form when he starred in his debut short film Engane Thudangum, directed by Vishnu Pradeep.
While balancing his engineering career, Dheeraj continued to nurture his love for cinema. He later joined ABB in Bangalore, but the pull toward acting became so intense that he made a bold decision to leave his well-paying job and return to Kerala to pursue his dream full-time. Immersing himself in the film industry, he attended numerous auditions, determined to find his breakthrough.
His persistence paid off in 2016 when he was cast in his first commercial feature film, Y, directed by Sunil Ibrahim. Though the film earned critical acclaim for its storytelling, it didn’t fare as well commercially. However, it marked an important turning point in Dheeraj’s career.
He began to garner attention for his on-screen presence, especially through his appearance in the film Vaarikuzhiyile Kolapathakam, where his performance in a song sequence stood out. He also appeared in the musical album Onam Ponthiruvonam, which gained popularity on YouTube and further widened his reach among audiences.
A significant moment came with his role as Govindan in Kalki, where he delivered a subtle yet powerful performance that was well-received by critics and viewers alike. This role marked his first notable break in the Malayalam film industry.
Now, Dheeraj Denny is stepping into leading roles, with two films — Karnan Napoleon Bhagatsingh and Michael’s Coffee House — lined up for release. His journey from engineer to actor reflects his unwavering dedication, and he continues to evolve as a promising talent in Malayalam cinema.
