Deepak Kumar Padhy

Biography:

Deepak Kumar Padhy is an Indian cinematographer known for his work in Tamil cinema. Born in Chennai, he was introduced to the world of filmmaking at an early age, influenced by his father, Saroj Padhy, a renowned cinematographer who collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers like Bharathan, Bhadran, Shaji Kailash, and Hariharan. His mother, Rajalakshmi Padhy, is a homemaker.

Growing up surrounded by the art of cinematography, Deepak developed a deep passion for photography and filmmaking. Encouraged by his father, he pursued formal education at Krishna Swami Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Devi Academy Senior Secondary School in Chennai before enrolling at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu to specialize in cinematography.

During his early years, he gained hands-on experience working as an assistant cinematographer under his father. After completing his studies, he assisted B. Kannan on the English film White Rainbow and the Tamil film Vishwa Thulasi. He later collaborated with Rajiv Menon on advertisements and worked as an associate cameraman with cinematographer Priyan on films like Vallavan and Aaru.

Dipak eventually transitioned into the advertisement film industry before making his debut as an independent cinematographer in the Malayalam film Kaati, directed by Shankar Paniker. Over the years, he has worked on more than fourteen feature films, earning a reputation for his visually striking imagery and innovative technical approach.

With a keen understanding of audience emotions, Dipak Kumar Padhy continues to craft immersive visual experiences, leaving a lasting impact on Tamil and Malayalam cinema.
