Actor and director David Mark Joseph Morrissey was born in England on June 21, 1964. Before becoming more well-known for his roles as Gordon Brown in The Deal (2003), Stephen Collins in State of Play (2003), The Governor in the third and fourth seasons of The Walking Dead (2012–2015), and DCS Ian St Clair in Sherwood (2022–present), he had a number of small roles in films and television shows during the 1990s. He has also performed on stage a lot with organisations like the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Morrissey has directed television dramas Sweet Revenge (2001) and Passer By (2004), as well as short films. Don’t Worry About Me (2010), his first full-length feature film as a director, debuted on BBC Two. He received a Best Actor award from the Royal Television Society for The Deal and was nominated for a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor for State of Play. In 2016, he received an honorary doctorate from Edge Hill University.
