Charithra Chandran

Biography:

Charithra Surya Chandran (born January 17, 1997) is a British actress recognized for her television roles in Alex Rider (2021), Bridgerton (2022), and One Piece (2026). Her film credits include How to Date Billy Walsh (2024) and Fight or Flight (2025).

She was born in Perth, Scotland, to Tamil parents who worked in the medical field. After her parents separated when she was two, she moved to India with her father and lived with her grandparents in Tamil Nadu. At age four, she returned to the UK and attended school in Liverpool. She later studied at Moreton Hall Preparatory School in Suffolk before spending her teenage years in Oxford with her mother, while her father resided in Wales.

Chandran completed her sixth form education at Oxford High School and went on to study Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at New College, University of Oxford, graduating in 2019. During her university years, she was actively involved in theatre productions and joined the National Youth Theatre. After taking a gap year—during which she pursued acting as a hobby—she decided to follow it as a career, declining a job offer from BCG and briefly working part-time at the New Policy Institute.

In 2021, she joined the main cast of the spy series Alex Rider as Sabina Pleasance in its second season. The following year, she gained wider recognition for her role as Edwina in the second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton, based on The Viscount Who Loved Me, starring alongside Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley.

In June 2022, she voiced Camille in a BBC Radio 3 adaptation of Pam Gems’ play Camille, itself based on La Dame aux Camélias. The production was shortlisted for Best Adaptation at the 2023 BBC Audio Drama Awards. Later that year, she voiced Mia in A Mid-Semester Night’s Dream, an audio reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

In 2024, Chandran made her West End debut as Eileen in Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon. That same year, she starred as Amelia in the Amazon Prime comedy How to Date Billy Walsh. She was also announced as the lead and associate producer of Song of the Sun God, a six-part drama based on the novel by Shankari Chandran. In August 2024, it was revealed that she would portray Nefertari Vivi in the live-action adaptation of One Piece.
