C. Ranganathan is an Indian film director and screenwriter known for his contributions to the Tamil film industry. He initiated his career in the world of cinema with his directorial debut in 1996, a romantic drama titled “Coimbatore Mappillai,” featuring Vijay and Sanghavi, which marked the beginning of his journey in the film industry.
Ranganathan’s association with cinema runs deep, as he had previously worked as an assistant director under the guidance of renowned directors R. Sundarrajan and S. A. Chandrasekhar. His entry into the industry was not limited to directing alone; he also tried his hand as an actor, playing the lead role in the 1991 film “Oyilattam,” directed by Sundarrajan. However, his primary focus shifted to direction, where he achieved notable success between 1996 and 1997, with three consecutive Tamil films: “Coimbatore Mappillai,” “Tata Birla,” and “Aahaa Enna Porutham,” all of which turned out to be profitable ventures.
Despite early success, Ranganathan faced challenges in getting his subsequent film projects off the ground, with several films announced but not reaching completion. This led to a shift in his career towards television serials, and he collaborated with K. Bhagyaraj in the creation of the serial “Vilakku Vacha Nerathula.” This transition marked a new phase in his career in the entertainment industry.
