Bhavatharini Raja, an Indian singer and music composer, hails from a family deeply rooted in the music industry, being the daughter of renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja. Her brothers, Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja, are noted film composers as well.
She began her singing career with the film “Raasaiya,” where her song became a big hit. Most of her singing assignments have been under the direction of her father and brothers, and she’s also worked with composers like Deva and Sirpy.
In 2000, she earned the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her rendition of “Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu” from the film “Bharathi,” composed by her father.
Not limiting herself to singing, Bhavatharini ventured into music direction. She debuted as a music director for the film “Mitr, My Friend” in 2002, directed by Revathi and starring Shobhana. She expanded her music direction to the Telugu film industry with “Avunaa” and also composed for “Phir Milenge,” directed by Revathi and starring Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, and Salman Khan.
Her musical journey continued with projects like “Vellachi,” a village-based film for which she was roped in to score the tunes in June 2012. Throughout her career, Bhavatharini has showcased her versatility as both a singer and a composer, contributing significantly to the Indian music scene.
