Gorantla (in the Guntur district) is where Bhargavi (1983–2008) was born. She first gained notoriety with YVS Chowdary’s Devadasu, which served as her debut film. She also played Varalakshmi (the character corresponding to Cecily Cardew in Earnest) in the Oscar Wilde adaptation Ashta Chamma. She performed in a number of TV serials before taking the lead in Ashta Chamma. She became well-known thanks to the Just Yellow-produced television program Ammamma.com. Bhargavi and Praveen Kumar, an orchestra troupe operator, were found slain in their Banjara Hills home on December 16, 2008, sparking questions about the killings’ causes.
