American comedian, producer, and actor Anthony Michael Hall was born Michael Anthony Thomas Charles Hall on April 14, 1968. Following a supporting part as Russell “Rusty” Griswold in National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) and his feature debut in Six Pack (1982), Hall’s breakthrough came in three John Hughes-directed films: Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, and Sixteen Candles. Because of his parts in those films, Hall was linked by the mainstream media to a group of young actors known as the “Brat Pack”.
Hall joined the Saturday Night Live cast from 1985 to 1986 and starred in movies like Out of Bounds (1986), Johnny Be Good (1988), and Edward Scissorhands (1990) in order to diversify his roles and avoid being typecast as his geek image. He played Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in the television movie Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) and “Shorty” Lattimore on the USA Network sitcom Claude’s Crib (1997) after playing a number of small parts in the 1990s.
