Alencier Ley Lopez is a prominent Indian actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema and theatre. Born into a Latin Catholic family in the coastal village of Puthenthope, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, he developed a deep-rooted passion for theatre from a young age. Witnessing the Leyon Lopez Nadakaolsavam theatre festival sparked his interest, leading to his debut on stage at the tender age of five.
After completing his education at St. Xavier’s College, Thumba, and University College Thiruvananthapuram, Alencier pursued his dream of becoming an actor. He actively participated in various theatre troupes during his college days, collaborating with renowned directors such as C. P. Krishnakumar and Kavalam Narayana Panicker.
Alencier’s journey in the film industry began with his debut in Venu’s directorial venture “Daya” in 1998. He gained recognition for his versatile performances in films like “Annayum Rasoolum” (2013), “Njan Steve Lopez” (2013), and “Maheshinte Prathikaaram” (2016). His portrayal of diverse characters, including a south Kerala Brahmin in “Vedivazhipadu” (2013) and a pivotal role in “Thondimuthalum Drisakhsiyum” (2017), earned him critical acclaim.
However, Alencier has faced controversy in his career, with allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by actress Divya Gopinath during the filming of “Aabhaasam.” These accusations, coupled with claims of unprofessional behavior on set, have marred his reputation to some extent.
