Alan Rickman

Biography:

Alan Rickman was a famous British actor and director who was known for his unique voice and imposing presence as well as for being able to play complex and morally dubious characters. Alan Rickman was born on February 21, 1946, in London, England. At first, Rickman wanted to become a graphic designer, but he changed his mind and attended Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where he developed his talent.

He became famous for being a successful theater actor, taking part in plays with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Alan Rickman was seen for the first time in the movie Die Hard (1988) in which he played the role of Hans Gruber. He appeared in films such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Sense and Sensibility (1995), Michael Collins (1996), Dogma (1999) and Love Actually (2003).Rickman achieved worldwide recognition for his role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film franchise, in which he starred in all eight movies from 2001 to 2011.

His reserved and complicated interpretation made Snape the most iconic character of the franchise. Other famous movies that brought him praise include Truly, Madly, Deeply (1990), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and The Butler (2013). Being a very talented theater actor, Alan Rickman received such awards as Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and BAFTA Award. Besides, he directed two films – The Winter Guest (1997) and A Little Chaos (2014). Alan Rickman died on January 14, 2016, in London.
