Indian actor Adarsh Gourav Bhagavatula was born in 1994 and is well-known for his roles in television shows and movies in both Hindi and English. In the drama film My Name Is Khan (2010), Gourav made his acting debut. His role as chauffeur Balram Halwai in the satirical film The White Tiger (2021) made him famous and earned him nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead and the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
He also received praise from all around the world for the film. In addition, Adarsh featured in the drama film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), the comic thriller series Guns & Gulaabs (2019–2021), and the adolescent comedy series Hostel Daze (2019–2021).
In Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Adarsh Gourav Bhagavatula was born into a Telugu-speaking family. His mother, Padmavati Bhagavatula, is from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh, and his father, Satishnarayana Bhagavatula, is from the Srikakulam area. Gourav was raised in Jamshedpur and attended Jamshedpur’s Loyola School. After that, he relocated to Mumbai, where he attended Narsee Monjee College.
The family chose to move to Mumbai in 2007 upon the transfer of Gourav’s father, who worked for The Central Bank of India. He attended the Podar High School in Lilavatibai. He was asked whether he wanted to pursue acting after being noticed while singing at the 2007 Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. The only reason he consented was because he was thrilled to be on TV. He was chosen to play the younger Shahrukh Khan in the movie My Name is Khan following a year of auditions. He attended Mumbai’s The Drama School to study.
Gourav studied Hindustani classical music with several gurus for nine years. He sang with the collegiate band “Steepsky” and became interested in Western music while he was a junior in college. A track titled “Good guys finish last” was recorded by them. He sang with the progressive rock group “Oak Island” in college; the band was also featured in MTV Indies-Never Hide Sounds.
