Biography:

Urmila Matondkar, born on February 4, 1974, in Mumbai, India, is a multifaceted personality known for her contributions as both an actress and a politician. With a career spanning across Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, and Tamil cinema, she has garnered widespread acclaim for her versatile performances and distinctive on-screen presence.

Matondkar’s journey in the world of cinema began at a tender age, making her debut as a child artist in the 1977 film “Karm.” However, it was her role in the acclaimed film “Masoom” (1983) that catapulted her to prominence. She then went on to essay significant roles in various regional films, showcasing her talent and versatility.

In 1991, Matondkar made her mark in Hindi cinema with lead roles in successful films like “Chanakyan” and “Narsimha.” However, it was her portrayal in Ram Gopal Verma’s “Rangeela” (1995) that firmly established her as a leading actress in Bollywood.

Throughout her career, Matondkar demonstrated her acting prowess across genres, from the drama of “Judaai” (1997) to the gritty realism of “Satya” (1998) and the charm of “Khoobsurat” (1999). She also made a significant impact in regional cinema with notable performances in Telugu and Tamil films like “Antham” (1992) and “Indian” (1996).

Matondkar’s repertoire expanded further as she delved into intense roles in psychological thrillers and horror films, earning critical acclaim for her performances in “Kaun” (1999), “Bhoot” (2003), and “Ek Hasina Thi” (2004). Additionally, she ventured into art-house cinema, collaborating with independent filmmakers in thought-provoking dramas like “Tehzeeb” (2003) and “Pinjar” (2003).

Beyond her cinematic endeavors, Matondkar is actively involved in humanitarian causes and is an advocate for women’s and children’s rights. She has also lent her expertise as a talent judge on popular dance reality shows like “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” (2007) and “DID Super Moms” (2022).

In her personal life, Matondkar married Mohsin Akhtar Mir, a businessman and model from Kashmir, in 2016. Their union reflects her commitment to both her career and her personal happiness, embodying the balance she strikes between her professional and personal aspirations.
