Indian actress Sharvari Wagh, who was born on June 14, 1997, and goes by Sharvari Wagh, is an actress who works in Hindi films. She started her career in 2015 as Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Luv Ranjan’s assistant director. She then made her acting debut in Kabir Khan’s war drama series The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye (2020).
Sharvari made her screen debut in the comedy Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021) from Yash Raj Films, for which she was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.In Munjya (2024), a comedy horror film, was her first commercial hit and proved to be her breakthrough performance.
In 1997, she was born into a Marathi household. Her parents are architect Namrata Wagh and builder Shailesh Wagh. She attended Ruparel College and The Dadar Parsee Youths Assembly High School in Mumbai. Her maternal grandpa was Manohar Joshi, the former chief minister of Maharashtra.
In the films Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Bajirao Mastani, and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Sharvari served as an assistant director. She added that she had been going to auditions for starring roles in films since 2014. In 2020, she made her acting debut with Sunny Kaushal in the Amazon Prime series The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye.
In 2021, Sharvari debuted in Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli 2, costarring Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her performance. “Sharvari is pretty confident for her first film and has a great screen presence,” the Hindustan Times observed. At the box office, it was not a big hit.
Three years later, in 2024, she made her next screen appearance in the comedic horror movie Munjya. The film functioned as an installment of the Maddock Supernatural Universe and was influenced by the Maharashtrian folktale of munjya. “Sharvari sticks to her brief — beam in enthusiasm, scowl in prosthetics,” Rediff contributor Sukanya Verma commented.
The movie was a sleeper hit at the box office and ended up being her breakthrough performance. Sharvari appeared in YRF’s historical drama Maharaj, a delayed production that was made available on Netflix, in a brief cameo (listed as a special appearance) opposite debutante Junaid Khan.
In the upcoming action drama Vedaa, which also stars John Abraham, Sharvari will play the title role. She will also be a part of the YRF Spy Universe in the spy thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt.
