Anaswara Rajan

Biography:

Anaswara Rajan (born 8 September 2002) is an Indian actress predominantly working in Malayalam cinema. She began her career as a child artist with Udaharanam Sujatha (2017). Her breakthrough role came with Neru (2024), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Malayalam. She also earned critical acclaim for her performance in Super Sharanya (2022).

Born to Rajan and Usha on 8 September 2002 in Karivellur, near Payyanur in Kannur district, Anaswara completed her schooling at St. Mary’s Girls High School in Payyanur.

Anaswara debuted as Athira, the rebellious daughter of Sujatha (played by Manju Warrier), in Udaharanam Sujatha. She rose to prominence with her first leading role in Thanneer Mathan Dinangal (2019), a coming-of-age high school drama that became a sleeper hit and established her as a promising talent. In Adhyarathri (2019), she portrayed dual roles as both a daughter and mother.

In 2022, Anaswara played the titular character of an engineering student in Super Sharanya, a commercially successful film. Cris from The News Minute praised her portrayal, calling it “wonderful.” She also made her Tamil debut that year with Raangi, starring alongside Trisha.

In 2023, she starred in the Tamil film Thugs, alongside Hridhu Haroon, which was a remake of the Malayalam movie Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil. She then debuted in Hindi cinema with Yaariyan 2, opposite Meezaan Jafri, where her performance was noted for being “lovely but over the top in emotional scenes,” according to Bollywood Hungama.

Later in the year, Anaswara delivered her career-best performance as a blind sculptor in Neru, alongside Mohanlal. Her portrayal of Sara was widely praised, with Janani K of India Today commending her for capturing strength, resilience, trauma, and skill “with utmost perfection.” The film also became one of the top ten highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time.
