Biography:

Ajmal Ameer, an Indian actor and former medical practitioner, is active in the Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu film industries. He has been honored with two Filmfare Awards South for his performances in “Anjathe” (2008) and “Ko” (2011). Ajmal made his cinematic debut in the Tamil film “February 14” as a college student, but he stepped into a leading role with “Pranayakalam” in Malayalam, starring alongside Vimala Raman. This was followed by his appearance in the Tamil film “Anjathe,” directed by Myshkin, where he portrayed an intense young character. The movie gained both critical acclaim and commercial success, earning Ajmal numerous awards. He later acted in the Malayalam film “Madambi” alongside Mohanlal, which, along with “Loham” and “Two Countries,” remains one of his successful Malayalam ventures.

In subsequent years, Ajmal ventured into Tamil cinema with films like “TN 07 AL 4777” and “Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru” in 2009. He also worked on an international Malayalam production called “De Nova,” although it didn’t receive much attention. His portrayal of the anti-hero Vasanthan Perumal in the 2011 Tamil movie “Ko” garnered significant praise, earning him the Chennai Times Film Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role Male based on an online poll conducted by The Times of India. In 2012, he marked his entry into Telugu cinema with the film “Rachcha.”

Ajmal’s willingness to explore diverse roles beyond the traditional heroic image led him to a range of characters in Tamil and Telugu cinema. He took on roles like an independent cinematographer in the suspense thriller “Bangles” (2013), as well as roles in movies such as “Karuppampatti” (2013) and “Vetri Selvan” (2014), although the latter two struggled at the box office due to limited publicity.

He also featured in the Telugu film “Prabhajanam” (2014), portraying the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. In subsequent years, his Malayalam presence was more subdued, with guest appearances in “Loham” and “Two Countries” in 2015. However, he gained recognition for his role in the award-winning Malayalam film “Ben” (2015). His involvement in the Malayalam film industry remained relatively quiet until 2022 when he appeared as a police officer in “Pathaam Valavu.” Meanwhile, he kept himself engaged in other film industries, completing the Tamil movie “Iravukku Aayiram Kangal” (2018) alongside Arulnithi. In 2019, he was part of Tamil films like “Chithiram Pesuthadi 2” and “Devi 2.” His presence extended to Nayanthara’s film “Netrikann” (2021), and he was also involved in the Malayalam movie “Kshanam.”

Ajmal pursued his medical studies in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. He has two siblings, brothers Askar and Abith. He is married to Renju, and the couple has a son and a daughter.
