With the increased prominence of OTT platforms, which happened rather quickly than anticipated, thanks to the pandemic, the theatre-going culture has changed a lot in the country. While the culture is still very much prevalent, the OTTs have surely changed the overall picture, on a grander scale.
Movies that used to run for days and weeks together on the big screen are now running for a maximum of four weeks in the theatres before they are getting an OTT premiere. This reduced span of films in theatres has made 50 days of a movie in a theatre a major record in itself, which is why it comes as a surprise now, that Balakrishna’s latest film, Akhanda has completed 100 successful days in theatres.
The film received its OTT premier some time ago, with the film turning out to be a huge success, becoming the most-watched film within a very short span. And yet, the film managed to complete 100 successful days in the current scenario, creating yet another record. Akhanda, released in December last year, is directed by Boyapati Srinu, marking the director’s third collaboration with Balakrishna, after Simha and Legend.
