Yami Gautam is all set to headline a gripping courtroom drama inspired by the real-life Shah Bano case, which shook India in 1985.
The film marks 40 years since the Supreme Court verdict that became a milestone in the fight for Muslim women’s rights.
Yami plays the lead role of a strong woman battling unjust personal laws. Emraan Hashmi plays her husband, based on the real-life character Ahmed Khan.
The story highlights a woman’s courageous stand against her powerful husband, religious bodies, and societal pressure eventually winning her case in the Supreme Court. The verdict later became one of the top events that shaped Indian democracy.
Directed by Suparn S Verma, known for Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hain, this movie is part of his courtroom trilogy. Shot across Uttar Pradesh the film is expected to hit theatres globally in October 2025.
