Right now, there’s a high demand for movies with a mythological or fantasy touch. The recently released ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ is an example, directed by Nag Ashwin with a mix of fantasy and advanced concepts, which worked well and made it successful at the box office. These kinds of movies are becoming popular. In the past, some fantasy genre movies didn’t perform as expected at the box office.
Let’s look at some of these films:
Govinda Govinda:
This is a fantasy movie directed by the well-known Ram Gopal Varma. It stars Nagarjuna and Sridevi, with C. Aswani Dutt as the producer. All the songs composed by Raj and Koti became chartbusters. Despite having everything to be a blockbuster, the movie, released in 1994, flopped. However, when people later watched it on TV, they were surprised at how good it was. Many believe it flopped because it was released at the wrong time.
Kannayya Kittayya :
Rajendra Prasad played a double role in this fantasy comedy film directed by Relangi Narasimha Rao. Released in 1993, the movie was also a flop.
Magarayudu:
Directed by the renowned EVV Satyanarayana, this comedy movie with a fantasy touch stars Karthik as the hero and Vijayashanti as the heroine. While it is enjoyable to watch on TV, it was a flop at the box office.
Mechanic Mavaya:
SP Balasubrahmanyam played a key role in this fantasy movie starring Rajasekhar and Rambha. The entire film was shot at Ramoji Film City, directed by SV. Rajendra Singh Babu and produced by Ramoji Rao. Released in 1999, the movie was a flop, but it’s still enjoyable to watch on TV.
Directed by Megastar Chiranjeevi and Kodi Ramakrishna, this movie was released as a Sankranthi gift in 2004 but turned out to be a disaster at the box office. Many believe that if it had been released at a different time, the outcome could have been better.
This 2006 movie, directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti, stars Raja Abel and Bhumika Chawla with a touch of fantasy. Despite being enjoyable to watch, it flopped at the box office during its initial release.
Brahmalokam to Yamalokam via Bhulokam:
Starring Sivaji and Sonia Deepti, directed by Gollapati Nageswara Rao, this 2010 movie has elements of fantasy. Despite its potential, it couldn’t succeed at the box office for some reason.
When audiences heard or read the title, they expected a mass movie packed with commercial elements. The Mahesh Babu – Trivikram combo usually promises just that! However, this time the director added fantasy to the mix. The confusion about the movie’s genre was left to the audience, which affected its box office performance. Despite this, people have since enjoyed watching this movie on TV.
Directed by Srinivas Reddy, this movie stars Nagarjuna and Anushka Shetty with a fantasy element. The release date of this film was postponed multiple times before it was suddenly released, but unfortunately, it did not achieve the expected success at the box office. Nevertheless, it is a movie worth watching at least once.
