NAChristopher Storer developed the American psychological comedy-drama television series The Bear for FX on Hulu. The character played by Jeremy Allen White is Carmy Berzatto, a celebrated chef who returns to his native Chicago to oversee the hectic kitchen at his late brother’s Italian beef sandwich shop. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliott, and Matty Matheson are among the supporting cast members.
On June 23, 2022, all of the first season’s episodes were made available on FX on Hulu; on June 22, 2023, the whole second season was made available. The third season of the show, which debuted on June 26, 2024, was renewed in November 2023. The show was renewed for a fourth season, which will premiere on June 25, 2025, prior to the third-season premiere.
Particularly for its intensity, writing and directing, actor performances, technical quality, and production qualities, the series has won praise from critics. Critics and the restaurant industry have praised its realistic, accurate depiction of restaurants and character development, as well as its treatment of subjects like trauma and suicide, among others.
21 Primetime Emmy Awards have been given to the show, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series, two for Storer’s direction, two for White and Moss-Bachrach’s acting, and one each for Edebiri and Colón-Zayas’ acting. In addition, the Bear has won five Golden Globes, including the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy prize in 2024 and acting honors for White and Edebiri.
After his older brother Michael commits suicide, Carmen “Carmy” Anthony Berzatto, a gifted teenage chef, takes over his family’s Italian beef sandwich business. He leaves the world of working at Michelin-starred restaurants to run it when he returns home to Chicago. In addition to his own suffering and familial anguish, he is forced to cope with his brother’s outstanding bills, a dilapidated kitchen, and an unruly workforce.
