Story:

Divya Dutta will play the lead in SVF Entertainment’s forthcoming compelling social drama web series, Chiraiya. This series confronts the taboo subject of marital rape and challenges the widespread notion of automatic consent within Indian marriages. The trailer depicts Pooja, a young woman who is full of optimism when she first gets married, only to face the terrible reality of “normalized” injustice in private. The matriarch, played by Divya Dutta, is at the center of the narrative and must make a tough decision while negotiating a family structure that forces women to keep quiet for the sake of harmony.

The “deeply natural” notion that marriage is equivalent to perpetual, unconditional consent is directly contested in this program. The slogan “…ShaadiLicenseNahiHai” (Marriage is not a license) emphasizes that coerced intimacy is not permitted by a marriage certificate. Chiraiya draws attention to the romanticization of sacrifice in Indian culture and the pressure placed on women to be quiet in order to preserve family honor. In the meantime, Divya Dutta, Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand, and Sarita Joshi star in Shashant Shah’s film Chiraiya.
