The Silence of the Lambs

Story:

The Silence of the Lambs (1991) is an American psychological horror-thriller directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Ted Tally, based on the novel by Thomas Harris published in 1988. It tells a story of Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster), an ambitious FBI trainee sent to interview a very intelligent prisoner and serial killer named Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). As Clarice is interviewing Dr. Lecter, he gives her some clues about the identity of “Buffalo Bill”, another serial killer who abducts and kills women. In spite of being a manipulator and a very dangerous person, Dr. Lecter offers to give some clues about Buffalo Bill if Clarice tells him more about her difficult childhood.

While Clarice is carrying out her investigation, she is involved in a psychological struggle with both Dr. Lecter and Buffalo Bill, while struggling with her personal fears, goals, and memories. The film touches upon such issues as violence, identity, trauma, manipulation, power, psychological resistance, etc., and creates an impressive psychological suspense. Foster and Hopkins won Oscars for their performance. Hence, The Silence of the Lambs became one of the rare movies to have received all the five major Academy Awards—Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
