TheatreThat assurance is what motivated us to pursue a global release in Telugu and Malayalam. We respectfully ask for your ongoing assistance as we distribute this movie to viewers worldwide. The film is based on a narrative by Rejin S. Babu and was directed by Eugien Jos Chirammel. Nithish K T R did the editing for the movie, and Sreeram Chandrasekharan did the cinematography. Jean P. Johnson composed the music for the movie.
Soothravakyam, the debut novel of Eugien Jos Chirammel, starts with a concept that could have been successful in different hands. It centers on Christo Xavier (Shine Tom Chacko), a police officer in a quiet little town who teaches eleventh graders math in his spare time. When the movie begins, a dissatisfied math teacher named Nimisha (Vincy Aloshious) discovers that the majority of her seats are empty. Her pupils are away at Christo’s free classes, which are being held in the local police station’s upper hall. Together, they beg Christo to quit sabotaging her when she complains to the principal. In response, he gives the kids a courteous warning that doesn’t really make a difference. It is the first indication of the main issue with the movie.
Nothing seems to fit together right away. We never find out why the kids are so eager to attend Christo’s sessions or how he manages to balance being a responsible inspector and a motivated tutor throughout the school day. The movie never makes an effort to clarify. Rather, it throws a collection of disparate scenes at the audience in the hopes that something will stick. We switch between watching police procedural vignettes and then returning to the classroom, where we see the pupils and their families in domestic settings. These threads don’t develop any depth or tension.
