Plot
Principal dancer Bones, spoiled socialite Princess, fervently devout Grace, compassionate Zoe, and her hard-of-hearing sister Chloe make form a Los Angeles-based ballet ensemble that receives an invitation from their instructor, Thorna Devonport, to participate in a renowned international competition in Budapest. The troupe must travel to the competition on a dilapidated bus due to a sequence of mishaps at the airport; when the bus breaks down, they have to walk to get a cab. They are invited to the Teremok Inn, which is owned by Devora Kasimer, a former prima ballerina and the leader of a tiny criminal family, by a local man. Devora suggests that the girls put on their tutus instead of their rainy clothes.
Thorna witnesses Devora abusing a man in her office while escorting Chloe to the women’s restroom. Devora’s criminal associate, Pasha Marcovic, shoots her in the head after she knees him for making inebriated advances as she tries to round up the females so they can go. Devora locks the girls in the inn’s cellar and destroys their cellphones and passports after Princess threatens to call the police. Unaware of the scenario, Chloe starts hooking up with Artyom, Devora’s youngest son, while Bones tries to escape but is knocked out and carried downstairs.
Enraged by Pasha’s behavior, Devora hires a cleaner named Doktor to dispose of the girls’ corpses after she kills them and won’t pay protection until she sees his father, criminal Lothar “The Butcher” Marcovic. When Bones wakes up, Grace has been drugged and has broken free from her bonds. When Osip, the doorman, shows up to rape Grace, Bones uses her cunning to murder him and gathers the group. Pasha dispatches his bodyguards to covertly murder the females. They are able to defeat their assailants by turning their ballet equipment into weapons and employing dance poses as makeshift martial arts. Princess leaves the gang in a self-serving attempt to save herself when the girls seek to locate Chloe, but she comes back after witnessing Doktor dismember Thorna.
After giving her goons instructions to locate and murder the girls, Devora makes Pasha call his father for assistance. With razor blades attached to their fingertips and inserted into their pointe shoes, the five girls, led by Bones, perform The Nutcracker. This leads to a horrific hand-to-hand battle that kills every man but spares Artyom. Devora starts setting up the structure to detonate after retrieving a cache of C-4 explosives. After Bones escapes with the other girls, Devora captures him and shoots Pasha in the leg. Devora then reveals that Pasha’s prosthetic leg was caused by her father’s failure to pay off a loan, which ended her ballet career.
When Grace, Zoe, and Chloe go back inside to rescue Bones and Princess as Lothar and his men approach, they find the inn set up to blow. Devora shows up with a remote trigger for the C-4 as the five ballerinas reunite. Dancer to dancer, Bones begs Devora to spare them, sympathetic to her misfortune. While Lothar and his men storm the hotel, Devora kidnaps Pasha and lets the girls escape. In an attempt to get retribution, Devora tells Lothar who she really is before detonating the explosives, killing her, Lothar, Pasha, and Marcovic’s men while the girls manage to flee in time.
