“Manmadhudu 2” is a Telugu romantic comedy film directed by Rahul Ravindran. The movie, produced by Nagarjuna and P. Kiran under Annapurna Studios, Anandi Art Creations, and Viacom18 Studios, features Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. The music for the film is composed by Chaitan Bharadwaj. A spiritual successor to Nagarjuna’s earlier film “Manmadhudu” (2002), the plot is an official remake of the French film “I Do” (2006).
Despite the star-studded cast, the film received negative reviews and failed at the box office. The protagonist of the film is Samba Siva Rao, also known as Sam, an older bachelor and a perfumer residing in Portugal. Sam’s past, marked by a breakup with Suma due to traditional family pressures, has made him averse to the idea of marriage. Living with his mother and three sisters, Swarnalatha, Sangeetha, and Swetha, Sam faces familial pressure to get married within three months.
To escape this, he devises a plan involving a contract and hires Avantika, a young woman, to pretend to be his fiancée. The initial agreement is for her to leave him at the altar, ensuring his family backs off. Avantika, motivated by her own needs, agrees to the arrangement. However, the dynamics change as Avantika becomes emotionally attached to Sam’s family, and vice versa.
Following the original plan, Avantika disappears, leading to Sam’s mother suffering a heart attack. In an attempt to protect his mother, Sam rehires Avantika with a new plan. This time, she is to act unpleasantly towards the family, causing them to dislike her. As events unfold, Avantika moves into Sam’s residence, and a genuine connection forms between them.
Sam, constrained by the age difference, keeps his feelings to himself. Avantika, following the terms of their contract, leaves in despair. The turning point comes when Sam decides to confront his family, revealing his schemes and professing his love for Avantika. Unbeknownst to him, Avantika overhears his confession. The movie concludes on a positive note with Sam and Avantika getting married, and the couple decides to adopt Avantika’s nephew.
The production of “Manmadhudu 2” involved collaboration between Annapurna Studios, Anandi Art Creations, and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The movie officially commenced on March 25, 2019, with a puja ceremony held at Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad. The event was graced by the presence of Naga Chaitanya, Amala Akkineni, Sumanth, and Sushanth.
Following the launch, the film’s crew embarked on filming crucial scenes in various locations in Portugal. After completing the scheduled shoots, the team wrapped up the international schedule and returned to Hyderabad. “Manmadhudu 2” weaves a tale of romance, family dynamics, and unexpected connections, all set against the backdrop of a comedic narrative.
