Irandaam Ulagam

Story:

“Irandam Ulagam” is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language romantic fantasy film directed by Selvaraghavan. The story unfolds simultaneously on two different planets – Earth and an unnamed exoplanet. On Earth, the film follows the life of a medical student named Ramya, who develops a romantic interest in Madhu Balakrishnan, an academic mathematician. Initially, Madhu rejects her proposal due to his father’s disability, but he eventually reciprocates her feelings. However, their love story faces challenges, including a tragic accident that leads to Ramya’s death and the subsequent passing of Madhu’s paralyzed father. Devastated by these events, Madhu becomes a wanderer in Goa. He experiences an otherworldly encounter that changes the course of his life.

In parallel, the film portrays the story of an alternate world, a relatively primitive kingdom that safeguards the immortal figure known as Amma. Maravan, the son of a noble military commander, falls in love with a working-class orphan named Varna. Maravan, although fearless, initially lacks interest in martial arts, while Varna aspires to join the military and protect Amma. Their love story unfolds amid societal challenges, including an impulsive marriage imposed by the king and subsequent exile to the forest. Meanwhile, an inter-planetary portal briefly connects the two worlds, allowing Maravan to rescue the injured Madhu, whom the kingdom believes to be an angel. Madhu’s presence in the kingdom brings about miraculous changes, and he ultimately fulfills his destiny on another unnamed exoplanet.

“Irandam Ulagam” weaves together two love stories that transcend different worlds, ultimately leading to a unique and unexpected resolution for its characters.
