TheatreBaanam is an Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by debutant Chaitanya Dantuluri, featuring Nara Rohit and Vedhika in the lead roles. Produced by Priyanka Dutt for Three Angels Studio Pvt Ltd, the movie serves as Nara Rohith’s inaugural venture as a lead actor.
The theatrical release of “Baanam” took place on 16 September 2009. While the film achieved moderate success at the box office, it garnered favorable reviews from critics. Additionally, it underwent a Hindi-language dubbing, retitled “Jeo Aur Jeeno Do” (translating to “Live and let live”.
Ranasthali, 1989. Bhagat Panigrahi, fueled by idealism, sets his sights on joining the Indian Police Service. But Bhagat’s path collides with his past when his father, Chandrasekhar Panigrahi, a legendary Naxalite, resurfaces after a two-decade disappearance. Haunted by the death of his wife at the hands of the police, Chandrasekhar questions his son’s ambition, believing revolutionaries too must eventually retire. Yet, Bhagat counters with unwavering conviction, his logic a balm to his father’s jaded heart.
Meanwhile, a shadow creeps over Ranasthali – the notorious Shakti Patnaik, a local don, tightens his grip, bending police and citizens to his will. As Bhagat prepares to step into the light of justice, Patnaik’s darkness threatens to engulf the town, setting the stage for a clash of ideologies and a test of Bhagat’s resolve.
Bhagat’s path crosses Subbalakshmi, a young woman ostracized from her marriage due to dowry. He helps her rebuild her life as an independent woman. When her past resurfaces with a deceptive meeting arranged by her estranged husband, Bhagat stands by her as she cuts ties definitively. This defiance enrages her ex, who enlists the notorious gangster Shakthi Patnaik to harm Subbalakshmi. This incident sparks a conflict between Bhagat and Shakthi.
In the midst of it all, Bhagat achieves his dream of becoming an IPS officer, only to be interrupted and injured by Shakthi’s gang. Witnessing this brutality awakens a deep rage in Bhagat’s father, leading to a tragic confrontation with Shakthi. Determined to bring justice, Bhagat joins forces with a seasoned IPS officer who had once inspired him.
Together, they gather evidence and dismantle Shakthi’s nefarious operations. Cornered, Shakthi attempts to flee, but Bhagat and the authorities pursue him relentlessly. In a final confrontation, Bhagat confronts Shakthi, and justice prevails.
As dawn breaks, a new chapter unfolds for Bhagat, who heads to the police academy to begin his training. The film closes with the hopeful promise of a brighter future, built on courage and the unwavering pursuit of justice.
