Diljit Dosanjh’s two-day appearance at Coachella 2023 garnered media attention, but it quickly descended into controversy.
The singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is well-known in the entertainment industry. He just made history by becoming the first Punjabi singer to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2023, which was another accomplishment. However, his tenure wasn’t without controversy. He was ridiculed by some online users for supposedly disrespecting the Indian flag. Finally, Diljit replied to those trolls.
A portion of the social media users misrepresented his event-related statement to the uninitiated. It has since become sensationalised and has propagated unfavourable sentiment.
Before matters could worsen, Diljit Dosanjh wasted no time in using his Twitter account to clarify the situation and silence all trolls. He said, “DON’T SPREAD FAKE NEWS & NEGATIVITY Mai Kiha Eh Mere Desh Da Jhanda Hai Eh Mere Desh Lai.. Means MERI Eh Performance Mere desh Lai Je Punjabi Nhi Aundi Tan Google Kar Leya Karo Yaar…Kion ke Coachella Ek Big Musical Festival Aa Othey Har desh to log aunde ne.. that`s why Music Sab Da Sanjha Hai. The original statement was, “eh mere Punjabi bhain bhraawan layi, mere desh da jhanda laike khadi aa kudi, eh mere desh layi, negativity ton bacho, music saareyan da saanjha, [This girl is carrying my nation’s flag, this is for my nation and everyone. Music belongs to all, do not use it to spread hate]
According to sources, it was misrepresented by several portals, and the statement that was changed said that Diljit Dosanjh had disrespected the national flag. According to certain portals, the misrepresented statement was, “Diljit Dosanjh accused a girl of inciting hatred by waving the Indian flag during a music performance in America. He said, “Don’t spread hate, music belongs to everyone, not one country @diljitdosanjh Do you have no respect for the Indian tricolor?”
The claim was made on Twitter by the PunFact account. The artist shared a tweet criticising the Twitter account for disseminating false information.
