The lead up to the release of January 7th seems to be a very tough one for the makers of RRR, who have waited very long to release their film, which has been made on a massive budget, on a pan-Indian scale. The Bollywood market is going through a major roadblock, due to the rapid spread of Omicron in the Northern region of the country. Theatres in Mumbai have been asked to be run at 50% occupancy, and night curfews have been put in place as well.
On the other hand, a yellow alert has been announced in Delhi, which is the second major Hindi market after Mumbai. A yellow alert means that the theatres would be shut down, which would be a great loss for RRR’s collections. The USA has recorded 3 Lakh cases, but this news comes as a bit of a relief given that the advance booking for RRR has already come up to nearly 1.5 million USD.
While the South market still continues to be a safe zone, there’s the matter of the ticket pricing problem in Andhra Pradesh, which would have a heavy impact on the collections of RRR. Keeping all this is view, it is now to be seen what will happen.
