Biography:
Zoya Afroz (born 10 January 1994) is an Indian actress, model, and beauty queen. She earned the Miss India International 2021 crown at the Glamanand Supermodel India competition and went on to represent India at the Miss International 2022 pageant in Japan. Earlier in her career, she was named second runner-up at Femina Miss India 2013. Afroz began her journey in the entertainment industry as a child artist, first appearing in the television series Kora Kagaz in 1998, followed by roles in films such as Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), Mann (1999), and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003). She made her adult Bollywood debut in 2014 with the thriller The Xposé, which achieved commercial success. Alongside films, she has consistently appeared in television advertisements since childhood.
Beyond her work in entertainment, Afroz actively supports girls’ education and advocates for women from underprivileged communities, helping them move toward financial independence. She is committed to empowering women through access to basic education and equal opportunities.
Although her family roots trace back to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Afroz was born in Lucknow to Shadaab and Saleha Afroz. She began working in films, television, and advertisements at the age of three. She completed her schooling at R. N. Shah High School in Mumbai and later earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mithibai College in Vile Parle.
Afroz’s career began when she was just three years old after winning the Rasna-sponsored Mahasearch Contest, which led to her first commercial appearance. She gained wider recognition through the television series Kora Kagaz in 1998. Soon after, Rajshri Productions cast her in Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), where she played Neelam Kothari’s daughter in the blockbuster family drama.
She went on to act in Mann (1999) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003), and later appeared in the popular children’s fantasy series Son Pari. In 2000, she portrayed the young Goddess Parvati in the DD National show Jai Mata Ki. As a child artist, she also featured in numerous commercials for brands such as Whirlpool, Shoppers Stop, Jett Airways, and New York Life Insurance.
At 17, Afroz appeared in the Punjabi film Sadi Gali Aaya Karo (2012). She transitioned to adult roles with her Bollywood debut in The Xposé (2014), where her confident and glamorous performance was well received by critics. She was later cast in a Tamil film titled Thamizhan Endru Sol, which remains unreleased.
In 2017, she played the female lead opposite Himansh Kohli in Sweetiee Weds NRI, a youthful romantic comedy. She described the role as refreshing and relatable, allowing her to portray a character closer to her real age. She later appeared in the Tamil film Paamban (2019). In 2020, Afroz featured in the Kingfisher Calendar, shot in South Africa, appearing in both the March and June editions. She starred alongside Vivaan Shah in the Hindi film Kabaad – The Coin, which premiered digitally on Voot in February 2021. She also signed on for thriller web series such as Matsya Kaand on MX Player and the spy drama Mukhbir – The Story of a Spy.
Throughout her career, Afroz has been a prominent face in advertising, endorsing brands including Pond’s, KFC, Asian Paints, Parliament Basmati Rice, OnePlus, LG, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Century Plyboards, and Coca-Cola.
In the pageant world, Afroz won Femina Miss Indore 2013 at the age of 18, which secured her direct entry into Femina Miss India 2013. At the national finale held in Mumbai, she was crowned second runner-up. Although initially considered to represent India at Miss International 2013, the opportunity ultimately went to another contestant following organizational changes.
She returned to the pageant circuit in 2021 by competing in Glamanand Supermodel India, where the finale took place at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon. She won several special awards, including Best in Evening Gown, Miss Glamorous Eyes, and Top Model.
During the final question-and-answer round, Afroz spoke about the role of beauty pageants in fostering unity, emphasizing how such platforms empower women, celebrate diversity, and bring individuals from varied cultural backgrounds together.
She ultimately won the Miss India International 2021 title, outperforming 23 finalists, and represented India at the Miss International 2022 competition held in Yokohama, Japan.
