Weronika Tofilska

Biography:

Weronika Tofilska is a Polish filmmaker, writer, and director, recognized for her dramatic work across feature films and premium television. A graduate of the Krzysztof Kielowski Film School, as well as the United Kingdom’s National Film and Television School (NFTS), she initially earned acclaim for her award-winning short films that demonstrated a keen eye for a strong visual language and emotionally intelligent narratives. In the thematic veins of identity, relationships, ethical dilemmas, and psychological clashes, her works have been celebrated for their artistry and well-defined characters.

Most recently, her direction on the first four episodes of Netflix’s breakout global series, Baby Reindeer (2024) drew immense praise for the atmospheric quality, emotional stakes and sensitive approach Tofilska brought to the subject matter, and this later earned her a BAFTA Television Craft Award for Best Director: Fiction. She has directed pivotal episodes for Netflix’s The Irregulars, Amazon Prime’s Hanna, and HBO/BBC’s grand fantasy series His Dark Materials.

On the features side, Tofilska also made her screenwriting debut on the feature-length romantic neo-noir film Love Lies Bleeding (2024), which she co-wrote with director Rose Glass. Further expanding into the psychological thriller and horror arena, she acted as director and executive producer on the 2026 psychological horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen for Netflix from the Duffer Brothers.
