German composer, pianist, and former rapper Volker Bertelmann was born on October 11, 1966. He primarily performs and records under the Hauschka moniker. His prepared piano compositions are his most well-known works. For his score for All Quiet on the Western Front (2022), he received both an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award.
Germany’s Kreuztal is where Bertelmann was born. He was raised in the North Rhine-Westphanian village of Ferndorf, which is located in the Siegen-Wittgenstein area. He learned how to play the piano at church when he was eight years old. He was the fifth of six children. He started taking lessons in classical piano and kept going for the next decade.
