Visakh Subramaniam

Biography:

Visakh Subramaniam is an Indian film producer, distributor, and exhibitor who works in the Malayalam film industry. He is the grandson of P. Subramaniam, the founder of Merryland Studio, which was the second film studio in Kerala. Visakh is also a partner in the production company Funtastic Films, alongside actors Aju Varghese and Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Visakh began his career as a film exhibitor in 2011, around the same time that Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese, and Dhyan Sreenivasan made their debuts. It was during this period that he first met Vineeth and Aju, who were part of Thattathin Marayathu (2012). His connection with Dhyan deepened over time, and they began discussing potential collaborations.

In 2016, on the release day of Vineeth’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam, Dhyan pitched the script of Love Action Drama to Visakh. Initially, Aju Varghese was the sole producer, but Dhyan later invited Visakh to co-produce the film. This led to the formation of Funtastic Films. Love Action Drama, starring Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara, was released in 2019 and became a commercial success, grossing ₹50 crore (US$7.2 million) at the box office and completing 100 days in Kerala.

Visakh also ventured into film distribution, starting with Helen under his banner, Funtastic Films. He continued to distribute films such as Gauthamante Radham in 2020. In 2021, he produced Saajan Bakery Since 1962 and is currently working on Hridayam, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, which marks the return of Merryland Studio after a 40-year hiatus. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Visakh produced the comedy series Mom and Son for YouTube, starring YouTuber Kaarthik Sankar and Aju Varghese.
