Biography:

Viju Khote (17 December 1941 – 30 September 2019) was a prominent Indian actor celebrated for his prolific career in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, having appeared in over 440 films. He gained widespread recognition for his iconic portrayal of the dacoit Kaalia in the classic film “Sholay,” particularly remembered for his memorable dialogue, “Sardar maine aapka namak khaya hai.” Additionally, his role as Robert in the movie “Andaz Apna Apna” left a lasting impact, with the famous dialogue “galti se mistake hogaya.”

In the realm of television, Viju Khote is fondly remembered for his notable contribution to the show “Zabaan Sambhalke” (1993). His versatility extended to Marathi theatre, where he also showcased his acting prowess.

Viju Khote shared familial ties with the entertainment industry, being the younger brother of the accomplished actress Shubha Khote. Their father, Nandu Khote, was a respected stage actor known for his work in silent movies. Furthermore, Viju Khote was related to the renowned actress Durga Khote through his sister-in-law.

The celebrated actor passed away on 30 September 2019 at his residence in Mumbai, succumbing to multiple organ failure. Viju Khote left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and is remembered for his significant contributions to the world of entertainment.
