Vibhu Puri

Biography:

Vibhu Puri is an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, lyricist, and director who works in Hindi movies and digital content. He is a gold medalist from Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), and after serving as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Vishal Bhardwaj, he contributed to such popular films like Saawariya (2007), Guzaarish (2010), and The Blue Umbrella (2005). Besides, he wrote the screenplay and dialogues for Saawariya and Guzaarish, and lyrics for Guzaarish and Hawaizaada. His award-winning short film Chabiwali Pocket Watch (2006) won the Special Jury Award at National Film Awards and was India’s entry in Student Academy Awards.

Hawaizaada (2015) is the debut full-length film of the director, who later directed and wrote scripts for the episodes of a historical drama TV series Taj: Divided by Blood (2023) and Taj: Reign of Revenge (2023). Besides, Puri worked as a writer and episodic director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Netflix’s historical romantic series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024). It is worth noting that he has created the screenplay and dialogues for the series. Vibhu Puri is known for his poetic way of storytelling, rich visuals, and touching plots.
