Umesh Bist

Biography:

Umesh Bist is an Indian director, screenwriter, and writer who is credited with creating content for Hindi films and digital entertainment. With a degree in media from the A.J.K. Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, he kick-started his career in making short films, documentaries, and television shows before moving onto features.

In the course of time, he worked as a creative and series director for various popular television shows such as Kyunki Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai and Galli Galli Sim Sim and also worked as a creative consultant for a few television shows. His earlier works comprising of documentaries and short films were even appreciated at various international film festivals, highlighting his social and character-based approach towards filmmaking.

He made his directorial debut in 2014 with the film O Teri and also wrote the screenplay and dialogues for another comedy film Hero that was released in 2015. He gained critical acclaim for his work on Pagglait (2021) that starred Sanya Malhotra as a sensitive look at grief, family, and self-discovery. Further, he made inroads in the world of OTT by directing Kaun? Who Did It? (2021), a mystery thriller and Gyaarah Gyaarah (2024), a fantasy crime drama.
