Biography:

Umashree, born on May 10, 1957, is a prominent Indian actress and politician known for her contributions to the Kannada film industry. She is acclaimed for her versatile performances, often portraying character roles ranging from lead to supporting characters.

One of her notable achievements includes winning the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Gulabi in the 2008 Kannada film “Gulabi Talkies.”

In addition to her successful acting career, Umashree has also ventured into politics. In 2013, she became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka. During her tenure, she held several significant positions in the government of Siddaramaiah. Notably, she served as the minister for women and child development, empowerment of the differently abled and senior citizens, as well as Kannada language and culture. Her multifaceted contributions have earned her widespread respect and recognition in both the entertainment industry and the political arena.
