Biography:

Ujwal Kulkarni, an acclaimed Indian film editor, gained prominence for his work in the Kannada-language film “K.G.F: Chapter 2” (2022). Marking his debut as an editor with this film, directed by Prashanth Neel and starring lead actor Yash, it stands as the sixth highest-grossing Indian film and the third highest-grossing film in India.

Ujwal Kulkarni’s entry into film editing began with his brother Vinay, an aspiring actor. Initially creating videos for Vinay, Ujwal delved into the editing world, encouraged by friend Shashank. Moving to Bengaluru, he worked with Mufti editor Harish Komme for two months. His fan-made edits for KGF: Chapter 1 caught Prashanth’s attention, leading to an interview and his official entry into the Rocky Bhai world.

Starting with KGF: Chapter 2 was a stroke of luck fueled by passion for the franchise. As the youngest technician, Ujwal marveled at working with stars like Yash and Prashanth Neel. The director’s meticulous planning eased the process, with Ujwal adhering to Prashanth’s non-linear editing vision developed during the writing phase.

Spending two years on the film, Ujwal found Prashanth’s constant support crucial. The experience taught him valuable lessons about cinema and life, emphasizing dedication. Outside work, Ujwal enjoys music, parties, and admires Christopher Nolan and the Narcos franchise, introduced by Prashanth. Looking ahead, Ujwal is set to edit another film for Prashanth Neel, the Prabhas-starrer, Salaar.
