Biography:

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV is an American actor and producer who was born on July 3, 1962. Known as a Hollywood legend, he has been nominated for four Academy Awards and won other honors, such as an Honorary Palme d’Or and three Golden Globes.

With nearly $4 billion in North American box office receipts and over $11.5 billion globally, his films have made him one of the all-time highest-grossing box office stars. He is among the highest-paid actors in the world on a constant basis.

Early in the 1980s, Cruise took up acting, and his breakout performances came in the action movies Top Gun (1986) and the comedy Risky Business (1983). His performances in the dramas Rain Man (1988), The Color of Money (1986), and Born on the Fourth of July (1989) brought him praise from critics.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor and won a Golden Globe for his depiction of Ron Kovic in the latter. He was a prominent Hollywood celebrity in the 1990s, appearing in critically and commercially successful movies such as the thriller The Firm (1993), the horror movie Interview with the Vampire (1994), the drama A Few Good Men (1992), and the romance Jerry Maguire (1996).

He was nominated for a second Academy Award and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for the latter. Cruise was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and received another Golden Globe Award for his role as a motivational speaker in the drama Magnolia (1999).

Since then, Cruise has made a name for himself as an action star by appearing in science fiction and action movies and frequently pulling out daring acts of his own. Since 1996, he has portrayed Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible movie series.

The Last Samurai (2003), Vanilla Sky (2001), Minority Report (2002), Collateral (2004), War of the Worlds (2005), Knight and Day (2010), Jack Reacher (2012), Oblivion (2013), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), The Mummy (2017), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022) are some of his other noteworthy films in the genre.

The latter is his highest-grossing picture and earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Picture Award for his producer work. Cruise won the title of “Most Beautiful People” in 1997 after being voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1990.

Actresses Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes are among the women he was married to. In addition to having a biological daughter with Holmes, he adopted two children during his marriage to Kidman. Being a vocal supporter of the Church of Scientology, he attributes his success in overcoming dyslexia to it.

Thomas Cruise Mapother III (1934–1984), an electrical engineer, and Mary Lee (née Pfeiffer, 1936–2017), a special education teacher, welcomed Cruise into the world on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York.

His parents were of English, German, and Irish descent, and they were both from Louisville, Kentucky.Marian, Cass, and Lee Anne are the names of Cruise’s three sisters. William Mapother, one of his cousins, is an actor who has worked with Cruise in five different movies. Cruise was raised as a Catholic in almost impoverished circumstances.

His father abused his kids, and he later called him a “coward,” a “bully,” and “a merchant of chaos.” “[My father] was the kind of person that, if something goes wrong, they kick you,” he clarified.

Over a 14-year period, Cruise attended 15 different schools. Cruise was born and raised in Canada. His family relocated to Beacon Hill, Ottawa, in late 1971 when his father accepted a position as a defense adviser with the Canadian Armed Forces.

He completed his fourth and fifth grades at the recently opened Robert Hopkins Public School. In the fourth grade, he took up theater for the first time, studying under George Steinburg. He performed IT, an impromptu play set to music, at the Carleton Elementary School theatrical festival with six other students.

Afterwards, theater organizer Val Wright, who was there, remarked, “The movement and improvisation were excellent… a classic ensemble piece.” Cruise attended Henry Munro Middle School in Ottawa for his sixth-grade year.

Cruise’s mother returned to the US with his sisters after divorcing his father in the same year. She got married to Jack South in 1978. Cruise attended Cincinnati, Ohio’s St. Francis Seminary for a year on a Catholic Church scholarship, hoping to become a Franciscan priest, but he left after just one year.

The seminary’s priests said that Cruise made the decision to leave when his family moved again, however one of his former classmates claimed that they both requested to leave after being found in possession of alcohol: 24–26 He was a linebacker on the varsity football team in his final year of high school

But he was dismissed from the team after it was discovered that he had consumed alcohol before a game:46 He later played the lead role in Guys and Dolls, the school production. He received his diploma from Glen Ridge High School in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, in 1980.
