Toby Emmerich

Biography:

American producer, screenwriter, and film executive Toby Emmerich was born on February 8, 1963. In the past, he was Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman. Constance (née Marantz) and André Emmerich (1924–2007), an art trader and gallery owner from Frankfurt, were the parents of Emmerich. When he was born, his parents were residents of New York City. He’s Jewish.[2] He is the brother of Adam Emmerich, a mergers and acquisitions attorney with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York, and Noah Emmerich, an actor. He graduated from Wesleyan University after attending The Calhoun School in New York City.

Prior to joining New Line Cinema as an executive music producer for movies like Menace II Society (1993) and Above The Rim (1994), Emmerich worked as a music executive at Atlantic Records. The screenplay for the 2000 movie Frequency was written by him. Later on, he worked as an executive producer on more than fifty movies. Additionally, he created the screenplay for the 2007 film The Last Mimzy.

On March 18, 2008, Emmerich was appointed president and chief operating officer of New Line after holding the position of president of production at New Line Cinema. He was appointed Warner Bros. Pictures Group’s president and chief content officer in 2017 and then chairman in 2018. As chairman, he “has oversight of the Studio’s global theatrical production, marketing and distribution operations and also oversees the marketing and distribution activities of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment”. His tenure as chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group was extended in October 2019, and top lieutenant Carolyn Blackwood was promoted to the newly established chief operating officer role.

Emmerich announced his resignation from Warner Bros. on June 1, 2022. Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy will take over for him when their contracts with Amazon-owned Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer expire. Before launching his own production firm, Emmerich stayed at his position for a “transitional period” and signed a five-year financial and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. In July 2022, De Luca and Abdy assumed control.
