Theni Eswar

Biography:

Film industry work primarily in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, Eswaran Ramar, also credited as Theni Eswar, is an Indian cinematographer born and raised in Theni, where he also completed his diploma in automobile engineering.

He developed a career in photography when he took up the hobby in college. Later on, he was given a Kodak Award for his street photography. Before relocating to Chennai, he lived the majority of his formative years in Theni.

He worked with Baskar Sakthi, a writer at Ananda Vikatan who was then writing a series called Route Bus, while looking for work as an assistant cinematographer. Baskar Sakthi was tasked with taking pictures of the beautiful travel routes, locations, and locals.

Among the movies he filmed were Sivappathigaram, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, and Kattradhu Thamizh. Director Suseenthiran recruited him as a cinematographer for his upcoming film, Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai, during the Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu photo shoot.

After that, he worked with Gowtham Menon, Bala, and Ram as directors. His second film project was Taramani, where he collaborated with Ram. He also appears in Gowtham Menon’s Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada as an extra cinematographer.

In 2018, Bala’s film Naachiyaar was also filmed by him. Merku Thodarchi Malai, another movie he co-directed with Lenin Bharathi, was released that year and starred him. For that film, he was awarded Best Cinematographer at both the Punjab-based Bioscope Film Festival and the Norway Tamil Film Festival. In the film Peranbu, starring Mammootty, he once more worked with Ram. The movie came out in February 2019.
