Thyagarajan Govindarajan, whose father was also a well-known film producer, is an Indian film producer who began his career in the industry with the critically acclaimed film Moondram Pirai. He founded Sathya Jyothi Films, a production and distribution company, and has produced over 30 films and a few television series with it.
Before starting Sathya Jyothi Films in the 1970s, Thyagarajan first worked as a film producer for his father-in-law, R. M. Veerappan, under the Satya Movies banner. Moondram Pirai (1982), starring Kamal Haasan, was his first solo production and was both critically and commercially successful.
The Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Film was also won by the movie. His subsequent project, Pagal Nilavu (1985), marked his first working relationship with Mani Ratnam and was a box office failure.
The sleeper hit film Parthiban Kanavu (2003), which Thyagarajan also produced, went on to win the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Film. In 2016 and 2017, he produced three consecutive films, Thodari (2016), Sathriyan (2017), and Vivegam (2017), starring Dhanush, Vikram Prabhu, and Ajith Kumar, respectively. 2019 saw the success of his production company Viswasam, which brought in approximately 200 crores at the box office and was also one of his biggest hits to date. Following Viswasam, Thyagarajan and Dhanush worked together once more on Pattas (2020), a film that depicted the Tamil martial arts expert Adimurai.
