Indian digital compositor and cinematographer Swapnil S. Sonawane mainly works in the Hindi film industry. He contributed to the digital compositing of the films Chashme Baddoor (2012) and ABCD: Anybody Can Dance (2013). Among the films for which Swapnil has cinematography credits are Newton (2017) and Zubaan (2016).
Swapnil’s contribution to India’s first Netflix Original, Sacred Games, has made him well-known. His first film was the feature documentary Faith Connection, directed by Pan Nalin. Following that, Swapnil worked on his own on television advertisements for companies like Vodafone and Flipkart as well as well-known documentaries like MTV’s Sound Trippin and Dewarists – Season One, a musical television series on MTV India. Aside from that, he has contributed to critically praised films such as Amit Masurkar’s Newton, which was India’s official Oscar submission, Mozez Singh’s Zubaan, and Pan Nalin’s Angry Indian Goddesses.
The Marathi film Dhappa, which was directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari, was recognized in 2018 as the Best Film for National Integration National Award winner. His most recent endeavors are the experimental thriller AK vs AK, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and starring Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, and the feature film Last Film Show by Pan Nalin.
Additionally, he contributed to the Netflix Anthology Ray, which was a reimagining of the auteur Satyajit Ray’s short stories. Most recently, Swapnil has worked with filmmaker Harshavardhan Kulkarni on his next film Badhaai Do and with Vasan Bala on the comedy-crime drama feature Monica O My Darling, which stars Rajkumar Rao, Radhika Apte, and Huma Qureshi.
