Suman Mukhopadhyay
Biography:
Suman worked for the Tagore Festival as a George A. Miller Visiting Artist at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received a Fulbright Fellowship from Columbia University in New York in 2022. His first cinematic directorial debut film was Herbert which was released in 2005 and won the National Award for Best Bengali feature. His feature film “Nazarband” (2020) premiered at Busan International Film Festival. His previous movie, “Asamapta” (Incomplete), debuted at the IFFLA in the United States. Prior to that, Rahul Bose and Konkona Sen Sharma’s “Shesher Kabita” (The Last Poem) debuted at the Dubai International Film Festival and was released on August 7, 2015. August 2013 saw the release of his fourth feature film, “Kangal Malsat” (The War Cry of the Beggars). In 2009, Mahanagar@Kolkata was finished. The movie was shown in film festivals in New York, Kerala, and Munich. Based on Tagore’s book, his second movie, Chaturanga, was finished in 2008 and debuted at the Montreal World Film Festival. 36 national and international festivals screened Chaturanga. The movie won the Golden Palm at the Mexico International Film Festival, the Best Director prize at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, and the Gran Prix at Bridgefest, Sarajevo.
