Sujoy Ghosh is an Indian film director, actor, producer, and screenwriter known for his work in Hindi cinema. He began his directing career with the 2003 film Jhankaar Beats, a tribute to R.D. Burman that unexpectedly succeeded at the box office.
He went on to direct Home Delivery (2005) and Aladin (2009), which did not fare well commercially. However, his 2012 film Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan, was both a critical and commercial triumph. He continued the story with Kahaani 2 in 2016 and later directed Badla (2019).
Ghosh has also worked on short films such as Ahalya (2015) and Anukul (2017), and directed for Netflix with the horror series Typewriter (2019) and the mystery thriller Jaane Jaan (2023). Beyond filmmaking, Ghosh wrote the tagline “Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re” for the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL team.
Born in Kolkata and educated in London, he holds degrees in engineering and an MBA from Manchester University. He previously worked at Reuters before transitioning to filmmaking. Sujoy is married to Vaishali, a psychologist and business owner, and they have two children.
