Sooraj Pancholi

Biography:

Indian actor Sooraj Pancholi frequently appears in Hindi-language motion pictures. He made his debut in the 2015 romantic action movie Hero, for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Newcomer. He is the son of actresses Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab.  He costarred with Megha Akash in the 2019 action drama Satellite Shankar.

Following the death of the actress he was dating, Jiah Khan, in 2013, Pancholi was placed under arrest. Before being released on bond, he spent 22 days in jail. Khan’s family eventually released a note in which they blamed her potential suicide on the couple’s tense relationship. Pancholi was officially charged with aiding and abetting the suicide in 2018,  but he denied any role in the killing, characterizing himself as a scapegoat for her choice to take her own life. The family of Jiah thought Pancholi was to blame for their daughter’s passing.

Pancholi was acquitted by a CBI Special Court in April 2023 for lack of evidence following a decade of legal fights. In his Instagram Stories post following the verdict’s announcement on April 28, Sooraj stated, “The truth always wins,” along with the hashtag “God is great.” Following the court’s ruling, Khan’s mother informed the media that she will appeal to a higher court.
