Sonam Kapoor, born 9th June 1985, is an actress renowned for her outspoken nature and alluring sense of style. Born to the multifaceted Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor appeared in media from an early age. She made her acting debut in the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2007 romantic drama Saawariya. Although the film wasn’t a roaring success in the box office, Sonam Kapoor later on went to have her first commercial success in the romantic comedy I Hate Luv Storys as the hopeless romantic Simran alongside the actor Imran Khan.
Sonam Kapoor went on to have several other commercial successes despite a brief interim of poorly performing films. Among these are the 2013 box office hit Raanjhanaa, which turned Kapoor’s acting career around, she also had supporting roles in the biopics Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) and Sanju (2018). Sonam Kapoor’s portrayal of Neerja Bhanot in the biographical thriller Neerja (2016) is, however, her most acclaimed role. She was awarded National Film Award- Special Mention and a Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her rendering of Bhanot’s character.
Besides acting, Sonam Kapoor is also known for being publicly outspoken, unafraid of the way her statements are perceived. She has contributed to several charitable organisations and is a prominent spokesperson on breast cancer awareness and LGBT rights in India. Kapoor has also received praise for her sense of style and dressing, proclaimed the Style Icon (Reader’s Choice) and Beauty of the Year by the Hindustan Times and the Indian edition of Vogue, respectively.
