Biography:

Sonalee Kulkarni Benodekar (formerly Kulkarni) is a prominent Indian actress known for her significant contributions to Marathi cinema. Recognized for her versatility and powerful performances, she is among the highest-paid actresses in the industry. Her talent has earned her multiple accolades, including two Filmfare Awards Marathi, a Maharashtra State Film Award, four Zee Chitra Gaurav Puraskars, and four Maharashtracha Favourite Kon Awards.

Kulkarni began her career as a model and dancer before making her acting debut in the Marathi TV series Ha Khel Sanchitacha (2006). She later starred in her first film, Gauri (2006). Her breakthrough role came in Bakula Namdeo Ghotale (2007), earning her critical acclaim and awards for Best Actress and Best Debut Actress. In 2010, her portrayal of Nayna Kolhapurkarin in Natarang gained widespread recognition, cementing her title as the “Apsara of Marathi Cinema.” The film’s success elevated her status as a leading actress.

Throughout her career, Kulkarni took on diverse roles, including key performances in Ajintha (2012), Zapatlela 2 (2013), Classmates (2015), and Mitwaa (2015), the latter earning her a Filmfare Award Marathi nomination for Best Actress. She made her Bollywood debut with Grand Masti (2013) and appeared in Singham Returns (2014). Born in Khadki, Pune, to Manohar and Savinder Kulkarni, Sonalee grew up in a military family. Her father, a retired Army doctor, inspired her disciplined upbringing. She studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya and Fergusson College, completing degrees in mass communication and journalism. Kulkarni’s first exposure to acting came while participating in an FTII project, which sparked her passion for the craft. Married to Kunal Benodekar since 2021, she continues to be a celebrated figure in Indian cinema, known for her dynamic range and powerful screen presence.
