Biography:

Shubha Balsavar, formerly Shubha Khote, is a distinguished Indian actress renowned for her versatile performances in both Hindi and Marathi cinema, as well as television. Born into a prominent Marathi-Konkani family, she is the daughter of the renowned Marathi theater personality Nandu Khote and a Konkani lady from Mangalore, Karnataka. Notably, her younger brother is the acclaimed actor Viju Khote, and her aunt was the legendary actress Durga Khote, while her maternal uncle, Nayampalli, also graced the silver screen.

Raised in a culturally rich environment, Shubha excelled not only in academics but also in sports, particularly swimming and cycling. In a time when female participation in sports was rare, she distinguished herself as the women’s national champion in swimming and cycling for three consecutive years from 1952 to 1955, showcasing her prowess and determination.

Shubha Khote received her education at St. Teresa’s High School and St. Columba School in Mumbai before pursuing a degree in English Literature from Wilson College. Following her academic pursuits, she ventured into the world of acting, where she found her true calling.

In her personal life, Shubha is married to D. M. Balsavar, hailing from Mangalore like her mother. He held the position of Vice President of Marketing at Nocil, a prominent Indian corporation. Their union blessed them with a daughter, Bhavana Balsavar, who has also carved her niche as a talented television actress.

Shubha’s illustrious career in the entertainment industry spans decades, during which she has delivered memorable performances across various mediums. Notably, she ventured into production and direction with the Marathi film “Chimukla Pahuna” (1968), in which her husband made a cameo appearance.
