Girija, also known by her stage name Shruti and born on September 18, 1975, is an Indian actress, politician, and television host. She primarily works as an actor in the Kannada film industry. She is currently the chief secretary of the women’s section of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Karnataka cadre.
Shruti has also made a few Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam films in addition to Kannada. In her more than 25-year career, she has received four Filmfare Awards South and three Karnataka State Film Awards. She was one of the top actresses in Kannada film in the 1990s. Her roles in movies like Gauri Ganesha (1991), Aagatha (1995), Kalki (1996), Gowdru (2004), Akka Thangi (2008), and Puttakkana Highway (2011) have earned her recognition. She is the actor Sharan’s sister. She triumphed in the third season of the reality TV competition Bigg Boss Kannada in 2016.
In 2008, Shruti became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Before being fired in 2009, she was appointed head of the Karnataka Women and Child Development Corporation. She joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha in 2013, which then merged with the BJP in 2014.
Girija is Shruti’s birth name; she was born in a Karnataka household who speaks Kannada. In her first Kannada film, Aasegobba Meesegobba, she was given the name Priyadarshini. She was given the name Shruti by actor-director Dwarakish, who first acted with her in 1990’s Shruthi.
